Rennie Neubecker: My Tunes

The Red, White & You

(Rennie Neubecker)
July 15, 2006
My Dad was a Disabled American Vet, & I grew up during the Vietnam era. So there was a lot of things through the years to remind me of the sacrifices that my family friends & neighboors from around the country made, so I can live free & play live...then throw 9/11 into the mix & BAM..I felt compelled to write a song, to basically show my appreciation for what all of these people went through. "God Bless America"
AND THE VETERANS WHO HAVE PASSED THIS WAY

DIED FOR MY FREEDOM TO SIT HERE AND PLAY

AND SO WE GLORIFY THIS DAY

A DEEP CONNECTION TO THEIR GRAVES

THEY DID NOT DIE IN VAIN

WE CAN FEEL THEIR PAIN

PICK ANY WAR (DON'T WANT ANY)

KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR

A SARGENT WITH PAPERS, A NAME IN THE PAPERS

A CHILD LOST IN A VAPOR TRAIL

THEY HEARD THE ROTORS TURNIN'

AND THEY SMELLED SOMETHING BURNIN'

HE HEARS THE TURBINES SPINNING

AND HE WONDERS WHO'S WINNING (THE WAR)

MY COUNTRY 'TIS OF THEE

CAN WE SET THESE PEOPLE FREE

NOW A PRISONER OF WAR (HERE I AM)

ON A DISTANT SHORE

BUT I'LL FIGHT FOR MY COUNTRY, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE ME

AND SO THEY DEFEND OUR LIBERTY

THEN ON A WARM SEPTEMBER DAY

THOSE WHO WERE WEAK OF MIND TRIED TO TAKE IT AWAY

WITH TRUCKS OF RED AND HATS OF BLUE

OUR MEN GAVE OF THEIR LIVES FOR THE RED, WHITE AND YOU

THEY DID NOT DIE IN VAIN

AND WE STILL FEEL THEIR PAIN

PICK ANY WAR (DON'T WANNA HEAR)

A KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR

HE SAID BOTH TOWERS FELL

THERE WAS MUCH MORE TO SAY

THEIR LIVES LOST IN A SMOKY HELL
